The Kirstein Business Library of the Boston Public Library, the Massachusetts Artists Leaders Coalition (MALC), and the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) were pleased to present Live Art Speak.
The event included a tour of the Kirstein Business Library of the Boston Public Library tailored for artists, a networking and information sharing session, as well as break out sessions on key topics impacting artists of all disciplines. Please review MALC's 2009 reccomendations to the State's Creative Economy Council as these reccomendation were the inspiration for several of the topics for the break out sessions: MALC_CEC09.pdf

2pm Welcoming Remarks by Laura Pattison, Kirstein Business Library
2:10pm- 3pm -Rabb Lecture Hall -Informal Open Discussion with those attending the event-facilitated by Kathleen Bitetti of MALC and Greg Liakos, Communications Director at the MCC
Topics to be covered:
1) Results of the Nov. 2nd election and what they meant on a federal and state level for our sector 2) Very brief federal updates 3) Updates and brainstorming for the State's next legislative session- what legislation we know is going to be filed on our behalf, what needs to be safeguarded due to severe budget constraints, etc. 4) What should be the main themes brought up to legislators for the 4th Annual Artists Under the Dome Event on November 18th at the State House.

Breakout Sessions 3:15-4pm
Breakout Session #1 - Rabb Lecture Hall- MCC Cultural Districts- Special Guest: Meri Jenkins, Program Manager for the Adams Grant Program at the MCC- a discussion of the guidelines/regulations that the MCC is crafting to implement the cultural districts law that was passed over the summer.
Breakout Session #2 - Conference Room C05- Fair Trade Means Fair Trade - Special Guest: Greg Liakos, Communications Director at the MCC- a beginning discussion on how to create a framework or frameworks for measures, guidelines, regulations and/or possible legislation to ensure that artists of all disciplines in our state are fairly treated and compenstated for their creative work.
Breakout Session #3 - Conference Room C06- Artists Space -Special Guest: Jay Paget, Program Director, Cultural Facilities Fund at the MCC- a discussion of guidelines for artists housing and space- What do we want as a community
4:00-4:30pm -Rabb Lecture Hall- Networking and Information Sharing - Special Guest: Kelly Bennett, Exhibitions Curator/Program Coordinator for Artists Fellowships at the MCC.
