Call for Nominations: 2017 Commonwealth Awards

The Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) seeks nominations for the 2017 Commonwealth Awards, the state’s highest honor in the arts, humanities, and sciences.

Presented every two years by the MCC, the awards recognize both the well-known and the unsung heroes who contribute to our quality of life in Massachusetts through their creativity, commitment, and public spirit. This year’s Commonwealth Awards ceremony will be held at the Massachusetts State House on February 15, 2017 at 2pm.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 28 at noon. Winners will be notified in late November.

Leadership – For the leader of a nonprofit cultural organization, school, or community who has shown extraordinary commitment to serving the public.

Creative Community – For a city, town, or community-based organization that has demonstrated the central role of arts and culture in building healthier, more vital, more livable communities.

Achievement – For an individual or cultural organization whose creative achievements have uniquely enriched life in Massachusetts.

Creative Youth Development – For an individual, school, or cultural organization that has successfully helped young people develop their creative potential, foster critical learning and life skills, and become active contributors to their communities.

Cultural Philanthropy – For an individual, corporation, or foundation that has made lasting contributions to the cultural life of Massachusetts through charitable giving.

Media – For an individual or media organization that has demonstrated outstanding support of the cultural community in Massachusetts by telling its stories to the broader public.

Access – For exceptional organizations or programs that make the arts, humanities, and/or sciences accessible and inclusive for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and other underserved populations.
