Northeastern University moves to evict legacy artist-in-residence program: AAMARP

July 3, 2018

On Thursday, June 28th, Northeastern University essentially sent an eviction letter to AAMARP (African American Master Artists in Residency Program). This program has been based at the University for 40 years. It was established by artist Dana Chandler.

Gloretta Baynes, the point person for AAMARP, is a key member of the MALC steering committee and has been in contact with MALC on this since matter since the letter arrived last week. MALC has been working to support their efforts behind the scenes. Please note that the accusations made by Northeastern are in dispute.

MALC is awaiting AAMARP’s lead on their social media response, but highly encourages supporters of AAMARP to spread the press articles on this “eviction” far and wide. (See links below.)

Make no mistake on the timing of this letter by Northeastern. It was to take advantage of the holiday at a time when many decision-makers and elected officials are out of town.

It is unacceptable how Northeastern is conducting itself. The University needs to be held accountable for its actions.

Please spread word to others to be ready for action, as well as how to support AAMARP!
