Public Comment on State Education Plan Open Until March 9th

September 16, 2018

Earlier this month, the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) released its Massachusetts Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) State Plan detailing what determines a successful school in the Commonwealth.

Arts education accessibility and participation for grades K-12 is included as a foundational element of every child’s curriculum. The artists community appreciates the hard work put in by MA Education Commissioner Dr. Mitchell Chester and all the people at DESE.

Now its our turn to put in work. Public comment on the draft plan is open until Thursday, March 9th. Artists of all disciplines are encouraged to read the draft plan and add their voice to the public comment.

To read the draft, please visit the state’s education website:

The state intends to submit its plan to the U.S. Dept. of Education on April 3, 2017.
