Attend Diwali at the MA State House, Friday, Oct. 28, 12pm – 12:40pm
The South Asian Arts Council would like to extend an invitation for everyone to attend our annual Diwali lighting at the Massachusetts State House. Diwali, which is popularly known as “The Festival of Lights”, is the most sacred of Indian holidays and is celebrated by Hindu communities throughout the world, including those in the Indian diaspora together with worshippers of Hinduism in Nepal, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka. The holiday is the embodiment of the supremacy of divine light over spiritual darkness, of knowledge over ignorance, good over evil, and hope over despair. Diwali is associated with great optimism, generosity and, most importantly, new hopes for the future.
This year we are honored to also unveil the Diwali postage stamp issued by the US Postal Service and are dedicating our Diwali message to Akshaya Patra Foundation. The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with U.S. headquarters in Woburn, MA. Akshaya Patra strives to fight issues like hunger and malnutrition in India, by implementing the Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the government schools and government-aided schools. Akshaya Patra aims not only to fight hunger but also to bring children to school.
