May 31: Creating Musical Pathways for Youth, a Statewide Forum

May 5, 2014

Creating Musical Pathways for Youth:
A Statewide Forum hosted by the Massachusetts Cultural Council

Saturday, May 31, 2014
Boston, MA

MCC logoThe Massachusetts Cultural Council invites you to help design a new initiative focused on youth development through sustained involvement in intensive, ensemble music making. The initiative will engage and support the broad musical ecosystem of Massachusetts in reaching children who lack access to musical and cultural opportunities. Join us on Saturday, May 31 in Boston’s South End to begin a statewide conversation around how to align existing work across sectors to provide the transformative power of ensemble music making to children and communities that need it most.

The forum will bring together a broad range of organizations, from public schools and community music schools to social service organizations, symphonies, and universities. Your experience, perspective, and input are essential for the successful launch of this initiative.

Following morning sessions, lunch, and a keynote address, attendees are invited to attend the 2nd Annual El Sistema Showcase, hosted by Conservatory Lab Charter School and the Boston Philharmonic. This showcase will present children from 10 exemplary programs around the state and will culminate in a side-by-side performance with children from Conservatory Lab Charter School and members of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
