Today is the 6th Annual #ArtsMatterDay. Today, the creative community will flood social media with images and videos celebrating why arts matter in Massachusetts. LEARN HOW to participate!

MALC urges everyone to remember that there would be no art if someone hadn’t created it. Artists of all disciplines matter and this blog post, in addition to celebrating the 6th annual #ArtsMatterDay, is highlighting four of our past blog posts that celebrate our community and spotlight the issues we face.

Massachusetts State House’s Great Hall- Free and Open to the Public

For the thirteenth time, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is inviting Massachusetts artists working in all disciplines (visual arts, literary, performing, crafts, new media, etc.) to the State House. Registration for the event is now open– it is not required to register, but it is strongly encouraged!!

The 4th Annual MALC Champion of Artists Awards

For the fourth time, MALC will be awarding its Champion of Artists Awards as part of the 13th Annual Artists Under the Dome event on November 18th at the Massachusetts State House. These awards are given by MALC to honor those who have shown exceptional support of the artists community.

The award ceremony will begin at 11:00am in the State House’s Great Hall, located on the second floor. This ceremony, along with all the events that are part of the annual Artists Under the Dome event, are free and open to the public.  Although it is not required, we are urging people to register for the event. To find out who the 2019 awardees are see this MALC blog post.

Artists of all disciplines need space and time to create their work. There is a space crisis in the Greater Boston Metro area both in the housing sector and in the commercial property sector. This crisis hits our community two-fold.

By Artists, For Artists is a key fact-finding report created to help guide legislative policy that impacts artists of all disciplines in Massachusetts and beyond. The 2018 report, dedicated to Liora Beer (1953-2018), co-founder of MALC and Founder and Director of Artmorpheus, is based on the 2009 Stand Up and Be Counted project, the first-ever Massachusetts statewide survey of working artists of all disciplines.
