Governor Baker Vetoes Massachusetts Percent For Art Program
Governor Charlie Baker this week vetoed the Massachusetts Percent For Art Program (MPAP) put in place by Governor Deval Patrick last year. House Bill 3841 would have supported the preservation of existing and creation of new public art in Boston and Gateway Cities across the Commonwealth.
Governor Baker cited concerns with the program’s cost and structure. The program would have set aside half of 1 percent of the cost of construction/renovation of state-owned property to preserve and create public art. The allocation per project was to be capped at $250,000.
MALC will let you know if the legislature plans an attempt to override Baker’s veto. Stay tuned!
