Important Call to Action for Massachusetts Artists of all Disciplines and their Supporters!
Greetings,
The Independent Contractor issue has been something MALC and ArtistsUndertheDome.org have been working to fix since 2007.
We need your help!
Chairman Representative John Keenan and Chairman Senator Michael Moore filed legislation that would solve the issue for all who create intellectual property and want to be classified as an independent contractor: An Act Relative to the Creative Economy Bill House Bill 1738 and Senate Bill 875. (They crafted this legislation because our community shared how we have been negatively impacted since 2004 law change!)
There is a public hearing tomorrow (July 16th) for these two pieces of proposed legislation in Lexington. MALC members are planning on testifying. Members of the public are invited to testify at the hearing.
If you can’t testify, please send in written testimony by July 23rd for these two pieces of legislation that will help artists of all disciplines who are freelancers and who wish to retain control of their intellectual property rights.
For more information on the hearing and where to email your testimony:

Please share this call to action with fellow Massachusetts artists of all disciplines and residents who would will be willing to send in testimony to support S875 and H1738.
Thank you! Your testimony does make a difference!
Sincerely,
Kathleen Bitetti
