ACTION NEEDED! Arts funding slashed by 50%!
The budget released today by the Massachusetts House Ways and Means Committee recommends CUTTING the Commonwealth’s investment in the arts and cultural community by slashing the Massachusetts Cultural Council budget by more than 50% from $11.1 million to $5 million.
This is unacceptable.
Art drives our economy, enhances education, and builds our communities. This budget will drastically cut many Massachusetts Cultural Council programs that provide vital public support to organizations, artists, and arts educators across the Commonwealth.
We need to get to work and send a clear message to our Representatives by Friday, April 11 that arts matter.
Send an email TODAY to your Representative urging him/her to co-sponsor Rep. Cory Atkins’ amendment to fund the Massachusetts Cultural Council at $16 million.
The good news is that the budget battle is just beginning and you can make a difference. Over the next two days we need to send a clear message to our Representatives to show them that investing in the creative community is not just nice, but necessary.
Your Representative needs to hear from you today. Send an email now to ask your Representative to stand up for the creative community.
In the meantime, MASSCreative will be meeting with your Representatives at the State House. Your letters make our case even stronger.
