Expanded Gambling and the Arts

June 3, 2011

Important! Tell your legislators what you think!

New efforts to expand gambling in Massachusetts are moving rapidly through the state Legislature. We want to make sure the voice of the nonprofit cultural community is heard in this debate.

Our supporters in the state Legislature say it is urgent that cultural leaders, artists, educators, and others contact their Senators and Representatives directly and let them know whether they support expanded gambling in Massachusetts. To find contact information for your state legislators go here: http://www.malegislature.gov/People/FindMyLegislator

Also the Massachusetts Cultural Council will soon send a survey asking your opinion on a range of gambling-related issues and how casinos and slot machines might affect the cultural sector and the work that you do. We will share the results of that survey with the Governor and the Legislature, as well as the cultural sector.

Below also are links to the principal bills being considered by the Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies:

House version: http://www.malegislature.gov/Bills/187/House/H01905

Senate version: http://www.malegislature.gov/Bills/187/Senate/S00155

Please lend your voice to this important debate by contacting your legislators, and respond to our survey when it arrives in your inbox next week.

Thank you for your consideration.

Anita Walker
Executive Director
