Anti-Coop Housing Bill Defeated In The State Legislature
Supporters of artists’ cooperative housing and all cooperative housing scored a victory Tuesday when the state legislature’s Joint Committee on Housing voted to send an anti-coop bill to study.
“An Act Relative to Eligibility for Cooperative Housing Corporations, Senate Bill 596 and House Bill 1143,” would have dealt a blow to cooperative housing throughout the Commonwealth. Many artists, as well as residents from all walks of life, enjoy and support cooperative housing. They would be unjustly impacted if such anti-coop language were ever adopted by the state.
MALC and its allies have defeated bills and amendments with similar anti-coop housing language in the past. We will monitor the upcoming state budget process, as well as municipal legislation, for attempts to introduce anti-coop language.
