Get Your Vote On! November 4th Treasurer Race

October 22, 2014

MALC has always enjoyed a great working relationship with the current and previous Treasurers’ administrations and we have every hope of continuing this collaboration with the next Treasurer. One of the co-founders of the Annual Artists Under the Dome event at the Massachusetts State House was the State Treasurer’s Office.

This year’s AUD is scheduled for Wednesday, November 12!

(Please come!)

Two of the three candidates running in the Nov 4th General election returned the MALC questionnaire. We created pdfs of the candidates’ answers and reformatted them for visual consistency. Below, you’ll see we linked to all three of the candidates’ campaign websites and included our questions and relevant informational links for the candidates’ (and your) reference.

MALC does not endorse candidates for office.

MALC Questions for State Treasurer Candidates

(Note: Questions 1-3 can be answered with a yes or no, but please feel free to elaborate beyond a one word answer)

  1. MALC has had a great working relationship with the last two Treasurers and their administrations. Would you continue this open door policy to MALC and by extension to the arts and creative economy communities?
    Background info: http://www.artistsunderthedome.org/history.html
  2. The Treasurer’s Office was one of the cofounders of the Annual Artist Under the Dome event at the State House and it remains one of its key supporters. If elected Treasurer, will you continue the office’s support for this annual event? Background info: http://www.artistsunderthedome.org/annualevent.html
  3. MALC has been working to establish a disaster/emergency fund for artists of all disciplines that would be held/managed by the Treasurer’s office. All funds would be from outside sources, but in the case of a national disaster (i.e., Katrina/9/11 type of emergencies) it would allow for additional funding from the Federal government and/or other governmental/private sources to address the increased critical need.
Link to the most recent piece of legislation to create such a fund: https://malegislature.gov/Bills/188/Senate/S1625
  4. Is there anything else you would like to share in regards to your policy and/or platforms that directly impacts artists of all disciplines and by extension the arts and creative economy communities?
