Get Your Vote ON! Part Four – The MA State Senate and House Races

August 28, 2018

Get Your Vote ON!

Guide for the September 4th Massachusetts Primaries

Part Four – the Massachusetts State Senate and State Representative Races

As mentioned in our August 7th blog post, the Massachusetts primary elections take place this year on Tuesday, September 4th.

We encourage you to visit Ballotpedia, a great, free resource for the 2018 primary (September 4th) and the 2018 general election (November 6th):
https://ballotpedia.org/Massachusetts_elections,_2018

All seats in the Massachusetts State Legislature are up for election. This means that all 40 seats in the State Senate and all 160 seats in the state’s House of Representatives are up for election.  All 200 of these seats have two-year terms.

In some races the September 4th Primary will determine who wins the seat outright (i.e., only Democratic candidates or only Republican candidates are on the ballot).

Please take the time to vote!

MALC once again urges the candidates and their campaigns to create a platform for our sector and to take the time to read the MALC 2016 Labor policy paper and the 2018 By Artists, For Artists report.  If you are volunteering or working on any campaigns, urge your campaign to create a platform and refer to the two publications mentioned above and linked below.

MALC does not endorse candidates for office.

MASSCreative is collecting questionnaires from candidates running for office via its Create the Vote Initiative:

Voting in the legislative races is restricted to residents of their specific districts, of which there are 40. In other words, you can only vote for the candidates running in your district for the State Senate and State Representative seats. Discover your district from this link:

As discussed in Get Your Vote On – Part One, there are also important federal primary races: One U.S Senate seat and all nine seats Massachusetts Congressional seats. In Part Two we covered the Governor and Lt. Governor races. Next was Part Three – Massachusetts State Constitutional races for Attorney General, State Treasurer, State Auditor and Secretary of State.
