Massachusetts House & Senate Restore Funding to our Sector in the 2017 Budget!!
MALC is pleased to announce that the House and Senate voted this weekend to override budget cuts to our sector enacted by Governor Charlie Baker in the 2017 State Budget.
Here are the line items they restored:
1. Massachusetts Cultural Council: Line Item # 0640-0300
What the Governor vetoed/reduced in funding: (reduce MCC funding by) 7,771,376* to 6,527,624**
RESTORED TO $14,299,000
2. Regional Libraries Local Aid: Line Item # 7000-9401
What the Governor vetoed/reduced in funding:
Reduce by 113,103* to 9,770,379**
RESTORED TO $9,883,482
3. Municipal Libraries Local Aid: Line Item # 7000-9501
What the Governor vetoed/reduced in funding:
Reduce by 102,993* to 8,897,007**
RESTORED TO 9,000,000
4. Center for the Book: Line Item # 7000-9508
What the Governor vetoed/reduced in funding:
Veto 200,000* 0** (basically cut all funding for the Center for the Book)
RESTORED TO $200,000
5. MA Office of Travel and Tourism: Line Item # 7008-0900
What the Governor vetoed/reduced in funding:
Reduce Earmarking by 8,320,000* to 659,666**
RESTORED TO $8,979,666
6. Tourism Formula: Outside Section
The Governor also revised the Tourism Formula in his vetoes
What the Governor vetoed/reduced in funding:
“Section 39 Reduce By $3,000,000* to $7,000,000** –
RESTORED TO $10,000,000.
*The dollar amount the Governor wanted to cut the budget line item by.
** The new proposed level of funding by the Governor for the budget line item.
