Be Prepared for a tough 2016 MA Budget

February 10, 2015

On Thursday, Feb 5th, Governor Baker gave a speech to the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce. In that speech, he mentioned that his budget for 2016 is due by March 4th.

In his address to TheChamber, Governor Baker spoke about his priorities. Please watch it.

You can view it on the WBUR website:

It is very clear that 2016 is going to be a tough budget year for all state agencies and programs. If the proposed 9C budget cuts are any indication, arts and culture will not be spared. (Please see the MALC blog post on the 9C cuts: http://artistsunderthedome.org/malc/news/ma-budget-cuts-9c-updates/)

Please be aware that MassCreative is promoting an online petition around the Governor’s 2016 budget and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Arts in Action Petition to Gov. Baker

Dear Governor Baker,

I encourage you to provide the arts and cultural community with the support it needs to build vibrant and connected communities across the Commonwealth.

In your first budget, please increase the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s FY2016 budget by $3 million to $15 million.

These funds are critical to the creative community’s ability to help drive the economy, enhance education, and help build community across the Commonwealth.

Sign the Petition and share!
