Reminder: Urge Your Senator to Restore MCC Funding
We cannot stress enough how important it is to support the restoration of funding for the Massachusetts Cultural Council. EVERY DOLLAR the MCC invests returns FIVE DOLLARS to state coffers.
From the MCC:
Senator Eileen Donoghue of Lowell is seeking cosponsors for an amendment to next year’s state budget that would restore state funding for the arts, humanities, and sciences through the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC). Now is the time to contact your Senator and urge him or her to restore MCC funding by signing on to Sen. Donoghue’s amendment.
The amendment would increase MCC funding by $1.75 million to $11 million, allowing MCC to restore funds for nonprofit cultural organizations, communities, schools and youth programs, that have been lost through years of budget cuts. Cosponsors demonstrate that arts and cultural funding has widespread support in the Senate, and that restoring this funding should be a priority. Sen. Donoghue is Co-Chair of the Legislature’s Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development. Find contact information for your State Senator.
The Senate is scheduled to begin debating the budget next Wednesday.
