State Budget-First Step -the Governor’s Budget (Part Two)

February 2, 2017

As mentioned in part one, MALC is actively following the Commonwealth’s FY18 budget process. On January 25th, Governor Baker released his FY18 Budget and to see his full budget see this link: http://www.mass.gov/bb/h1/fy18h1/.*

MALC watches  several “line items” in the budget- the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), funding to our libraries, the tourism funding formula, and the film tax credit program. We also monitor what is filed in the “outside” section(s) of the budget.

We are happy to report that the Massachusetts Film Tax Credit Program was left fully intact in the Governor’s budget!

Also worth following is the funding for Tourism which is under Massachusetts Marketing Partnership. To see the Governor’s FY18 recommendations for these line items: http://www.mass.gov/bb/h1/fy18h1/brec_18/dpt_18/hmmp.htm

UPDATE  – Key MassLive article to read about how the Governor’s FY18 funding impacts the tourism sector:

Our blog post part three will look at how the libraries were funded in the Governor’s FY18 budget.

*The first step in our state budget process is the release of the governor’s budget. To learn about the state budget process see this link: https://malegislature.gov/Budget/GovernorsBudget
