The Fight For Cultural Facilities Funding Moves To The State Senate
On Wednesday the Massachusetts House of Representatives approved a $25 million cut to the Cultural Facilities Fund. The creative sector, led by MASSCreative, fought to restore the funding but came up short.
MASSCreative released the following statement:
“Thanks to all who jumped to action over the past couple of days as the House debated the reauthorization of the Cultural Facilities Fund. It’s so important that we show the voice and strength of the creative community when there’s a cut to arts funding.
Unfortunately, we did not get the result we wanted. Last night, the House passed H. 3920 with Cultural Facilities Funding at $50 million. The bill, now H.3933, has been sent to the Senate, where we will have an opportunity to make an impact.
With your help, we’ll work to restore the Cultural Facilities Fund to $75 million before it gets debated on the Senate floor. Hearings will be held both in the Committee on Bonding and the Committee on Ways and Means.
It’s vital that we share the stories of the Commonwealth’s creative community and show the impact that arts and culture have in building vibrant and connected communities.
If you’re interested in meeting with leadership, testifying at these hearings, or submitting written testimony, please send me a note, and we will let you know when the Senate starts taking up the bill. Keep up the good work.”
Matthew Wilson, Executive Director MASSCreative
MALC will provide updates when the Senate begins hearing the bill.
