Governor Baker Signs FY20 Budget Boosting Cultural Funding by 12%!

Great News!

The state’s FY20 budget, signed into law by Governor Baker today, increases the Mass Cultural Council’s budget from $16mil to $18mil, the highest state appropriation since 2002!

“We thank the Governor for joining the Legislature in this strong endorsement of the power of culture in making Massachusetts the great place that it is for those who live, work, and create here, and for visitors from around the world,” said Nina Fialkow, Mass Cultural Council Chair.

MA Legislature Approves $2M Boost to Cultural Funding

Mass Cultural Council Press Release

Today the state Legislature approved a budget for the new fiscal year that boosts funding for the arts, humanities, and sciences through Mass Cultural Council by $2 million.

The FY20 state budget funds Mass Cultural Council at $18 million, a 12 percent increase over last year and its highest state appropriation since 2002. The agency will invest the additional resources in nonprofit organizations, communities, artists, schools and creative youth development. The budget also preserved language that ensures Mass Cultural Council can continue its growing range of services to communities and nonprofits as part of its strategic plan. (more…)

MA Film & Television Tax Incentive: Success Defined from Mass Production Coalition on Vimeo.

On June 11th hundreds of industry members came to the State House to show their support at a public hearing for House Bill 2419 and Senate Bill 1728 to eliminate the sunset on the film and tv production incentive program.

The MPC needs your help to keep the pressure on!

The MPC has just released a new short 3-minute animated video that talks about the amazing economic impact of the film and television production industry in Massachusetts.

Tuesday, June 25th | Important Call to Action | Artists Bills Testimony

On Tuesday, June 25th at 11am, the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts & Cultural Development  will be holding a public hearing at the State House in Room B-2. Slated for the agenda are several very important bills that will substantially benefit artists of all disciplines.

Your support is welcome and much needed!

Members of the MALC Steering Committee will be testifying on several bills at the hearing. Scroll down to see the bills MALC will be testifying in support of.

Members of the general public are encouraged to attend and testify at the hearing and to send in written testimony to the Joint Committee.  If you wish to testify in person on the 25th, it is recommended that you arrive by 10:45am to sign up to testify.
