Springfield Central Cultural District Launched; will promote arts, culture, tourism

SPRINGFIELD — The newly named “Springfield Central Cultural District” was formally launched on Tuesday, with the state designation designed to help promote and expand upon the historic, artistic, and cultural assets in the downtown area.

The name of the district was revealed during a press conference at One Financial Plaza in the downtown, attended by many advocates for the arts and culture and downtown business leaders.

Governor’s Budget Proposal Cuts Arts and Culture Funding

BUDGET BATTLE BEGINS Governor Deval Patrick released his state budget proposal on Wednesday. The $36.4 billion proposal recommends cutting $1.5 million from arts and culture funding, a 13 percent cut from its current funding level.
