In Memory of Rob Todd

August 31, 2018

Portrait of Rob Todd

1963-2018

So many in the Boston art community are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Rob Todd. He was accomplished in many disciplines (painting, music), but was best known for his amazing films. He was also a beloved professor. Rob was a kind, caring and gentle person who touched so many. It comes as no surprise, then, that many wonderful tributes were posted on Facebook and published in the press in honor of him. He will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. All our hearts go out to his wife, Tessa Day, and his family.

Rob’s sister, Deb Todd Wheeler, posted on Facebook: “Please don’t grieve alone. Engage in some self-care, or care taking, or art making. I think he’d want you to.” (more…)

As mentioned in our August 7th blog post, the Massachusetts primary elections take place this year on Tuesday, September 4th.

We encourage you to visit Ballotpedia, a great, free resource for the 2018 primary (September 4th) and the 2018 general election (November 6th):

All seats in the Massachusetts State Legislature are up for election. This means that all 40 seats in the State Senate and all 160 seats in the state’s House of Representatives are up for election.  All 200 of these seats have two-year terms.

In some races the September 4th Primary will determine who wins the seat outright (i.e., only Democratic candidates or only Republican candidates are on the ballot).

Please take the time to vote!

Sam Cornish portrait

1935-2018

On August 19th, our community lost one of its finest poets: Sam Cornish. He was the City of Boston’s first Poet Laureate (2008-2014). He touched and mentored so many. If you were ever lucky enough to meet him and/or hear him read his poetry, you know how much he loved to share his work and how much he loved hear and support the work of his fellow poets of all ages. The MALC steering committee sends his family and friends our deepest condolences.

There will be public celebration of Sam’s life on 08/30/18 at Brighton Allston Congregational Church, 404 Washington St. at 11 a.m. All are welcome.
