Grants for Latinx artists and nonprofit arts organizations (Deadline Sept. 6th)

The National Association of Latino Arts and Culture, NALAC, has opened applications for another round of grants. The deadline for applications is Thursday, September, 6, 2018 at 11:59pm CST.

NALAC is the only national grant program intentionally investing in Latinx artists and nonprofit arts organizations in the United States and to date has awarded over 500 grants, reflecting an investment of $2.5 million across 35 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and México.

Stopping the “Work Free for Exposure” Conundrum

Everyone who practices an artistic discipline has been pitched the “work free for exposure” line. Tempting as it may seem, you should never take the bait.

A recent article in Dance Magazine by Jennifer Stahl entitled, Please Stop Asking Dancers to Perform “in Exchange for Exposure”, is worth the read:

“Doing anything for exposure is a lie, because if it’s truly good exposure, it generally means there is a budget, and it won’t be done for free.” ~ Dance Magazine, Aug 1, 2018

Be Ready for the Massachusetts September 4th Primaries for Federal and State Races!!

This year the Massachusetts primary elections take place on Tuesday, September 4th. The primary election will decide many key federal races (one U.S Senate seat and all nine seats for Congress) and many many state races.

It is important to note that all of our state representatives and state senators are up for re-election, as well as all of our state constitutional officers (Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Treasurer, Secretary of State, and State Auditor)!! (more…)
