Tribute to the late Representative Chris Walsh

On Saturday, June 9th, well over 250 people paid tribute to the late Representative Chris Walsh who lost his long battle with cancer last month.

He was a staunch ally to artists of all disciplines and to the art community. He helped so many and made our Commonwealth a much better place.

Alert: Copyright Office Proposing Significant Registration Fee Increases

The U.S. Copyright Office (@CopyrightOffice), Library of Congress, published a “Notice of proposed rule making” in the Federal Register on May 24, 2018, in which they reported the outcome of a study conducted by Booz Allen to address cost recovery goals.

Importantly, the Office has never recovered its full costs from user fees. Instead, the Office has traditionally recovered approximately 60% of its costs through fees; the remainder is provided through appropriated dollars from the U.S. treasury. ~ Federal Register/Vol. 83, No. 101, p. 24055

Sexual Harassment Prevention Trainings for the Cultural Sector

The Mass Cultural Council and the Mass Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) have teamed up to “offer education and training to ensure our cultural nonprofits are meeting the highest standards in sexual harassment prevention.”

Identical morning and afternoon sessions will be offered in three geographical locations:

Cape Cod

Update on the State Budget Process: Conference Committee

June 7, 2018

The next step of the state budget process, the Conference Committee, is now underway!

The Conference Committee is meeting today and will start their negotiations to come up with a consensus state budget. The budget is due by July 1st. The conference committee is chaired by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Jeffery Sánchez of JP/Boston and Senate Ways and Means Chairwoman Karen Spilka of Ashland. The other members are Ways and Means vice chairs Rep. Stephen Kulik of Worthington and Sen. Sal DiDomenico of Everett, Sen. Vinny deMacedo of Plymouth, and Rep. Todd Smola of Warren who will serve as the Republican conference member. (more…)
