Upcoming “Power of Culture” Community Meetings

Register for one of 12 regional meetings about the Power Of Culture in your communities. (Municipalities included in each region are listed that meeting’s registration form.) All meetings are 6-8pm.

Mass Cultural Council invites artists, city and town leaders, cultural and youth organizations, and others interested in the intersection between culture and communities to join us for one of 12 regional meetings focused on unleashing the power of culture in communities throughout the Commonwealth.

MCC: Senate Budget Plan Would Boost Cultural Funding by $2M

(Boston, MA) – Last night the state Senate endorsed a budget amendment calling for a $2 million increase in funding for the arts, humanities, and sciences through the Mass Cultural Council.

That FY19 budget would fund Mass Cultural Council at $16 million, a 15 percent increase for state support of the nonprofit cultural sector. It is $1.5 million above the budget plan approved by the House of Representatives last month. The two chambers must now reconcile their respective plans through a budget conference committee before the new fiscal year begins July 1. (more…)

Important Senate Budget Update!

May 23, 2018

The State Senate has taken action on the budget amendments MALC was following.  Special thanks to State Senator Adam Hinds and his staff for all their advocacy and support for our sector. It is expected that the Senate will complete its budget debate by Thursday, May 24th.

The MALC Guide for Senate Budget Debate (which starts today!)

Today, the Senate begins its debate on its 2019 budget. It is important to understand the process and how to best advocate.

MALC’s Guide to Budget Debates and Bundled Legislation

With the Senate budget debate slated to start today- here is a “guide” to better understanding the debate process, how to watch the Senate budget debate, and “bundled legislation”:

HOW TO WATCH THE BUDGET DEBATE:

Today, the Senate is slated to start its debate on the proposed Senate budget at 10am. When either the Senate or House is in what is called “formal session”, the State House, by law, needs to remain open to the public. This means if the debate goes into the late evening or early morning, the State House will be open to allow members of the public to watch the debate in person.

Many advocates and lobbyists are indeed up at the State House trying to meet with Senators, officials and/or their staff to advocate for their budget amendment(s). (more…)
