MCC: Senate Committee Proposes Level Funding for Arts, Humanities & Sciences in Latest Budget Plan

(Boston, MA) – The Senate Committee on Ways and Means released its version of next year’s state budget today, proposing $14 million for the arts, humanities, and sciences through the Mass Cultural Council.

That would represent flat funding for state support for the nonprofit cultural sector for Fiscal Year 2019, which begins July 1. It is roughly $500,000 less that the budget plan approved by the House of Representatives, and falls short of $17 million for cultural funding sought through a House budget amendment that drew support from more than 100 state Representatives during the House budget debate last month. 2019 Proposed Senate Ways & Means Budget Released (Part Two)

As we mentioned in Part One, the proposed 2019 Senate Ways and Means Budget was released this morning. This is the fifth step in the Commonwealth’s budget process. MALC follows several line items in the State budget. In this post we will highlight funding for the libraries.

Also there is no change to the Commonwealth’s Film Tax Credit program. There was also no change in the Tourism Trust Fund which means that the State’s Regional Tourism Councils were level funded.

This morning the proposed 2019 Senate Ways and Means Budget was released. This is the fifth step in the Commonwealth’s budget process.

Senate Ways & Means Budget Release: May 10th

The Senate Committee on Ways & Means is set to release its proposed budget this Thursday, May 10th. MALC is following several line items for the Mass Cultural Council, the Libraries, Arts & Culture, and the Tourism sector. We are also watching the outside sections of the budget for any proposed changes to the Film Tax Credit program and other key programs. (more…)
