What You Can Do: Budget Overrides & End of Legislative Session

July 25, 2016

The end of the formal legislative session is July 31st. This weekend (Saturday, July 30th  & Sunday, July 31st), both the House and the Senate will be in what is called formal session. During these sessions, the Representatives and Senators will be voting to override the Governor’s budget vetoes and will also be working to pass legislation.

What can you do?

Contact both your State Senator and State Representative to vote to override the Governor’s vetoes for our sector!

See our blog post on what vetoes need to be overridden and how to advocate:

To see the list of legislation the legislature is trying to pass and to better understand what the formal legislative session is, see this MALC blog post:

As always, thank you for advocating and share this post with others who might want to advocate for our sector!

From the Mass Production Coaliton- Film Jobs Advocacy Update

July 15, 2016

From the Massachusetts Production Coalition:

FILM JOBS ADVOCACY UPDATE

Last night (July 14th) the Massachusetts Senate passed a broad Economic Development Bill which contains NO proposals to alter the Film & Television incentive program. As we alerted earlier in the week, there were very real concerns about efforts to dismantle the incentive program through debate of this bill.

This week, our efforts put nearly 1,000 emails into the Senate within 48 hours. Clearly our industry’s voice is being heard!

Thanks to your advocacy, the Film & Television incentive program is not threatened in this piece of legislation. Congratulations, and thank you!

Please take a moment using the link below to thank the Senate for preserving the Film & Television incentive program.

Advocacy Alert from the National Endowment for the Arts: On Wednesday, the U.S. House began consideration of the bill that funds the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
