\nThe Boston Center for the Arts presents and showcases the performing and visual arts and artists of our time. Occupying a city block in the historic South End, the BCA provides a creative home for artists, a welcoming destination for audiences, and an arts connection for youth and community locally, regionally and nationally.<\/p>\n

In recent years, the BCA has positioned itself as the foundation and catalyst for creation \u2013 the creative home for emerging artists and mid-career visual and performing artists. The Associate Director of Visual Arts Programs is an important leadership role, responsible for the planning and supervision of BCA Visual Arts Programs, under the supervision of the Program Director. The BCA currently has four visual arts programs, including a robust exhibitions program in the Mills Gallery. Duties include, but are not limited to, the supervision of program staff, implementation of program activities, and budget management and tracking. In the absence of a Program Director, the Associate Director may temporarily assume the leadership role for the Program Department.<\/p>\n

Specific duties include:
\n\u2022 Oversee and coordinate all Visual Arts programs and initiatives, including but not limited to: Mills Gallery Exhibitions, Artist Studio Program, Artist Residency, and Public Art on the Plaza
\n\u2022 Work directly with all guest curators to ensure a unified BCA voice within the Mills Exhibitions program
\n\u2022 Ensure visual arts programs are responsive to local, regional and national audiences\u2019 and artists\u2019 needs and interests and oversee the evaluation and revision of programs accordingly
\n\u2022 Work closely with the Associate Director of Education and Community Programs on public programming around visual arts
\n\u2022 Manage the Visual Arts program budgets
\n\u2022 Supervise the Gallery staff, as well as interns and volunteers, in conjunction with the Gallery Manager and Associate Director for Education and Community Programs
\n\u2022 Serve as chief liaison to the visual arts community, including attendance at local gallery openings, serving on juries and panels, and conducting studio visits
\n\u2022 Assist the Development Department with fundraising for Visual Arts programs, including help with grant research and writing
\n\u2022 Coordinate with BCA Facilities Department on short- and long-term gallery improvements
\n\u2022 Participation with organizational teams as assigned
\nQualifications:
\nEducation: A minimum of a BA or BS degree is required; advanced degree desirable.<\/p>\n

Requirements:
\n\u2022 A minimum of three years of progressive experience in visual arts program planning, oversight, and implementation in the non-profit sector
\n\u2022 A track record of success in delivering innovative programs that meet the needs and interests of diverse audiences
\n\u2022 Excellent supervisory experience
\n\u2022 A thoughtful, energetic, and creative disposition and demeanor
\n\u2022 Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills
\n\u2022 Excellent time and schedule management
\n\u2022 The ability and desire to excel in a collaborative environment and be a team player

\nThe Boston Center for the Arts is an historic nonprofit performing and visual arts complex that supports working artists to create, perform and exhibit new work; builds new audiences and connects art to community. It provides a welcoming and intimate environment that invites public participation, and conversation to bring audiences and artists together; and to create a resource for urban youth and neighborhoods; with family-free admissions and discounts and age-appropriate activities to complement performances and exhibitions. The BCA is located in Boston’s South End, the largest landmark district in the United States. The BCA is a four acre complex that includes: The Cyclorama, built in 1884 to display a panorama painting, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
