The tax, which placed a sales\/use levy on computer and software services, immediately came under fire from members of the tech community, as well as individuals throughout the creative sector.\u00a0 The legislature responded quickly and Governor Deval Patrick <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/business\/2013\/09\/27\/patrick-signs-tech-tax-repeal\/Wi7aN9yY83hMl5ukoaL9kL\/story.html\">struck the law down <\/a>in September. That&#8217;s the good news.<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is only\u00a049 of the 250 vendors who reported collecting taxes in response to the Tech Tax have filed for an abatement of those taxes with the Department of Revenue (DOR)\u00a0\u2013 and they only have until December 31, 2013 to complete the filing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have sent communications directly to this group through DOR\u2019s\u00a0WebFile for Business, using the contact information they provided,&#8221; said Maryann Merigan, a director at the DOR. &#8220;We will do that again. It&#8217;s important that we use all avenues of communication to get this word out.
