And since we\u2019re in the second year of the current Massachusetts legislative session, this Wednesday, March 19,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/People\/ClerksOffice\/Joint\/Rules\" target=\"_blank\">Joint Rule 10\u00a0<\/a>applies.<\/p>\n<p>By Wednesday, all joint committees of the legislature (committees with members from both the House of Representatives and the Senate) must make final reports on any of the bills before them that were filed at the beginning of the legislative session last year.<\/p>\n<div>It\u2019s an exciting time for wonks, political junkies, and the policy nerds at MALC. We\u2019ve been\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.artistsunderthedome.org\/legislature.html\" target=\"_blank\">following<\/a>\u00a0several bills that would impact artists of all disciplines (for better or for worse).<\/div>\n<p>Here are a few of the bills we\u2019re focused on:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bills We Support<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An Act Relative to the Creative Economy Bill\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/188\/House\/H1738\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 1738\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/188\/Senate\/S875\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 875<\/a><\/li>\n<li>An Act Establishing a Disaster and Emergency Aid Fund for Massachusetts Artists\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/188\/Senate\/S1625\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 1625<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Resolve establishing a commission to study the inclusion of arts in STEM related programs\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/188\/House\/H2994\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 2994<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bills We Oppose<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An Act Relative to Eligibility for Cooperative Housing Corporations\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/188\/Senate\/S596\" target=\"_blank\">Senate Bill 596\u00a0<\/a>and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/188\/Senate\/H1143\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 1143<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>By Wednesday, these bills (along with others we&#8217;ve been monitoring) should be 1) favorably voted out of their respective\u00a0joint committees, or 2) killed by an unfavorable vote, or 3)\u00a0referred to a study (the\u00a0nice way of killing a bill).<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the committees could always\u00a0avail themselves of\u00a0a rule suspension\u00a0in order to\u00a0extend\u00a0their reporting deadline.
