Adams,\u00a0president of Colby College in Waterville, Maine from 2000 until his retirement on June 30, 2014, has been confirmed as head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neh.gov\/\">National Endowment of the Humanities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Adams studied philosophy as an undergraduate and, as a member of the Vietnam-era generation, served a year in Vietnam as a combat infantry adviser.
