Get Your Vote On! Republican and Democratic Candidates for Lieutenant Governor<\/h5>\n

MALC is happy to report that all four of the candidates running in the September 9th Democratic and Republican primary elections*<\/strong> for Lieutenant Governor returned our questionnaire. (To find out where to vote:\u00a0http:\/\/www.wheredoivotema.com\/bal\/myelectioninfo.aspx<\/span><\/a>)<\/span><\/p>\n

Like both the Democratic Attorney General’s primary race** and the Democratic State Treasurer’s primary race***, the Democratic Lieutenant Governor\u2019s race is very competitive. There are three candidates competing for the Democratic spot on the November general ballot.\u00a0MALC strongly encourages our community to take the time to learn about each of the Democratic candidates.\u00a0Once again, there is no race on the Republican side, with only one candidate running. Even though it is almost all but certain that candidate will be on the November ballot, it is important to take the time to read their questionnaire answers and view their campaign website.<\/p>\n

We created PDFs of the candidates’ answers (see below). They share the same formatting for visual consistency. We have linked to all four of the candidates’ campaign websites and we have also included the questions MALC asked them (see below, at the end of this post).<\/p>\n

MALC does not endorse candidates for office.<\/strong><\/p>\n

MALC actively monitors all the state-wide candidates\u2019 websites for any new policy platform postings for our sector. At the time of this post****, only one of the candidates competing in the September primaries (including those running for Governor) has a platform\/issues paper regarding our sector that is posted on their campaign website. That candidate is Democrat Leland Cheung who is running for Lieutenant Governor. His education policy also mentions our sector as well (STEAM, arts education, etc.). We linked to his arts policy & education page as well as to his questionnaire answers and his campaign website.<\/p>\n

MALC Questions for Lieutenant Governor Candidates:<\/strong><\/p>\n

(Note: Questions 1-3 can be answered with a yes or no, but please feel free to elaborate beyond a one word answer)<\/p>\n

1. As Lt. Governor, would you commit to an open door policy for the Massachusetts artists community and the creative sector?<\/p>\n

2. Lt. Governors of our state have a great tradition of promoting the governor’s policies throughout the state. If elected, would you advise the governor to make the promotion and support of our state’s third largest economic sector, the creative economy, a top priority for your office?\u00a0(The creative economy includes artists of all disciplines, arts and culture, the film sector, etc. )<\/p>\n

3. The Lt. Governor sits on the Governor’s Council, a clear sign that our state values his or her involvement in matters of justice. As Lt. Governor, would you commit your office to promoting justice for all workers, including artists of all disciplines, those involved in the arts, culture, the creative economy, and those who create intellectual property?<\/p>\n
