The last time there were floor votes was <i>almost 14 years ago<\/i>! <\/b><b>And<\/b><b> the U.S. House is also preparing for final votes on the House\u2019s education bill this week!<\/b><\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/www.votervoice.net\/ARTSUSA\/Campaigns\/41535\/Respond\">Please take two minutes to urge your members of Congress in the Senate and House to support arts education.<\/a><\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/BILLS-114s1177pcs\/pdf\/BILLS-114s1177pcs.pdf\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-medium wp-image-4842 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-2-296x300.png\" alt=\"S. 1177\" width=\"296\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-2-296x300.png 296w, http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-2-80x80.png 80w, http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-2-50x50.png 50w, http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/unnamed-2.png 729w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/a>The Senate education committee unanimously passed their bill, the <b>Every Child Achieves Act<\/b> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gpo.gov\/fdsys\/pkg\/BILLS-114s1177pcs\/pdf\/BILLS-114s1177pcs.pdf\">S.1177<\/a>), in April. The long-awaited and bipartisan bill is now ready to be considered on the Senate floor, where more amendments will be considered, <b>including arts-friendly amendments on state accountability plans<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Bringing the legislation forward is a historic effort to reauthorize federal education policies. <b>The Senate hasn\u2019t considered K-12 education legislation since passage of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act in 2001, which has been expired since 2007.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to thousands of advocates like yourself, the current bill already contains a number of pro-arts\u00a0provisions, including <b>retaining the arts as a core academic subject!<\/b> You can read more details about the legislation in this ARTSblog post available <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.artsusa.org\/2015\/07\/06\/esea-reauthorization-the-senate-takes-action\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The arts-friendly provisions, if approved, would allow states and school districts to increase support for the arts as a core subject, through after-school programs and extended learning, through grant programs and initiatives designed to support a well-rounded, complete education, especially for disadvantaged students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.votervoice.net\/ARTSUSA\/Campaigns\/41535\/Respond\">Help keep the momentum and join us by taking two minutes to urge your Senators and Representatives to support arts education, as these key policy bills are being debated.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Help us continue this important work by becoming an official member of the Arts Action Fund.
