On Friday, Governor Charlie Baker signed a $38.1 billion state budget. Within it, he vetoed line item funding for the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC), the\u00a0Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism (MOTT), and the Libraries. MALC\u00a0followed that budget process here<\/a> and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

MCC Cut:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Baker cut MCC<\/strong> line item\u00a00640-0300<\/a> from $14 million to $11.7 million<\/strong>. His stated reason was: “I am striking language which earmarks funding for programs not recommended, and I am reducing this item to an amount consistent with my House 1 recommendation.”<\/p>\n

MOTT Cut:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Baker cut MOTT<\/strong> line item 7008-0900<\/a> from $14.6\u00a0million to $9.4 million<\/strong>. His stated reason was: “I am striking language which earmarks funding for programs not recommended. The reduction in the item incorporates the amount of the stricken earmarked funds.”<\/p>\n

Library Cuts:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Baker cut Regional Libraries Local Aid<\/strong> line item\u00a07000-9401<\/a> from $9,883,537 to $9,883,482<\/strong>. His stated reason was: “I am striking language which earmarks funding for a program. The reduction in the item incorporates the amount of the stricken earmarked funds.”<\/p>\n

Baker cut\u00a0Library Technology and Automated Resource – Sharing Networks<\/strong> line item\u00a07000-9506<\/a> from almost $2,076.604 to $2,076,564<\/strong>. His stated reason was: “I am striking language which earmarks funding for a program not recommended. The reduction in the item incorporates the amount of the stricken earmarked funds.”<\/p>\n
