{"id":5176,"date":"2015-11-07T11:12:40","date_gmt":"2015-11-07T16:12:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/?p=5176"},"modified":"2015-11-18T07:15:11","modified_gmt":"2015-11-18T12:15:11","slug":"governor-baker-vetoes-massachusetts-percent-for-art-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/issues\/governor-baker-vetoes-massachusetts-percent-for-art-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Baker Vetoes Massachusetts Percent For Art Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Charlie Baker this week <a href=\"http:\/\/www.masslive.com\/politics\/index.ssf\/2015\/11\/gov_charlie_baker_vetoes_perce.html#incart_river\" target=\"_blank\">vetoed<\/a> the <strong>Massachusetts Percent For Art Program<\/strong> (MPAP) <a href=\"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/news\/governor-patrick-signs-executive-order-support-public-art-across-commonwealth\/\" target=\"_blank\">put in place<\/a> by Governor Deval Patrick last year. <a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Bills\/189\/House\/H3841\" target=\"_blank\">House Bill 3841<\/a> would have\u00a0supported the preservation of existing and creation of new public art in Boston and Gateway Cities across the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n<p>Governor Baker cited concerns with the program&#8217;s cost and structure.\u00a0The program would have set aside half of 1 percent of the cost of construction\/renovation of state-owned property to preserve and create public art. The allocation per project was to be capped at $250,000.<\/p>\n<p>MALC will let you know if the legislature plans an attempt to override Baker&#8217;s veto.
