More than two hundred nonprofits voiced opposition to the proposal, citing overhead costs for the purchase and maintenance of data security systems, increased general administrative costs and a significant disincentive for donors to contribute.<\/p>\n

[blockquote align=”none” cite=”~philanthropynewsdigest.org”]”A charitable nonprofit should never be asking a donor for her or his Social Security number when soliciting donations,” the joint letter states, and the proposed regulation “is certain to confuse the public and result in fraud.”[\/blockquote]<\/p>\n
