The USDAC is calling on all artists, creative organizers, and concerned citizens to join together on April 4th, 2017, to draw inspiration from and breathe new life into the prophetic words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., strengthening our commitment to speak truth to power and sparking creative action in the year ahead.<\/strong><\/p>\n

April 4th, 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.\u2019s, powerful speech, \u201cBeyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence.\u201d This is the most-quoted part of the Riverside Speech:<\/p>\n

[W]e as a nation must undergo a radical revolution of values. We must rapidly begin the shift from a \u201cthing-oriented\u201d society to a \u201cperson-oriented\u201d society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Any individual or organization can take part by hosting an event and\/or sharing images or texts via social media inspired by Dr. King\u2019s historic speech. In the #RevolutionOfValues Toolkit you’ll find detailed instructions on how to: read the speech in public, host a #RevolutionOfValues Open Mic or Story Circle, make #RevolutionOfValues art, renew Dr. King\u2019s words through poetry, and more.<\/p>\n
