House Overwhelmingly Passes Bipartisan Legislation on Selection Process for Copyright Register<\/strong><\/i><\/p>\n

Washington, D.C. \u2014 The House of Representatives today approved by a vote of 378-48\u00a0the Register of Copyrights Selection and Accountability Act (H.R. 1695).\u00a0 This bipartisan bill \u2013\u00a0introduced by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Ranking Member John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) \u2014 makes important changes to the selection process for the head of the U.S. Copyright Office, known as the Register of Copyrights. ~ House Judiciary Committee press release, April 27, 2018<\/a><\/i><\/p>\n

Pay attention, though. H.R. 1695 now moves to the Senate!<\/strong><\/p>\n

“It is heartening to see the majority of the House continues to respect the rights of authors. The opposing votes to the House\u00a0bill were proponents of the copy-left. We should expect continued opposition in the Senate.<\/i><\/p>\n

\nThe House bill will be automatically sent to the Senate where most likely it will be referred to the Judiciary Committee for action. It is also possible for the bill to be held at the desk in the Senate and then passed on unanimous consent without referral to committee.
