“Professor Barbara Lewis talked about the time in which poet Phillis Wheatley lived. She spoke about Boston\u2019s treatment of slaves and Phillis Wheatley\u2019s standing in her master\u2019s household. She also looked at the poet\u2019s reception in the international arena. Phillis Wheatley was an eighteenth century Boston slave, and the first African American to have her poetry published.”<\/p>\n
