I am pleased to share that arts advocates like you helped convince Congress to reject President Trump\u2019s proposal to terminate the nation\u2019s cultural agencies. In fact, Congress has allocated an INCREASE in funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to <b>$152.849\u00a0million<\/b> each.<\/p>\n<p>This victory is such a fitting tribute to last week\u2019s passing of <a href=\"http:\/\/artsactionfund.org\/news\/entry\/the_passing_of_an_arts_advocacy_legend_louise_slaughter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Congressional Arts Caucus Co-Chair Representative Louise Slaughter<\/b><\/a>, who spent her career in Congress fighting for the arts. She had most recently\u00a0co-authored an Arts Advocacy Day \u201cDear Colleague\u201d letter to her fellow Members of Congress recruiting a record number of <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.artsactionfund.org\/page\/m\/-3f44ec73\/1603c450\/6e992f6d\/7f552c3d\/793787327\/VEsA\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"no opener\"><b>166 House Democrats and Republicans<\/b><\/a> to sign a joint letter to House Appropriators to increase arts funding in America.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<b>Together, Arts Action Fund members provided a strong \u00a0and united voice for the arts:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grassroots arts advocates sent close to 200,000 messages to Members of Congress, thousands more signed our petitions and visited their elected Representatives and Senators.<\/li>\n<li>Our Arts Action Fund PAC was incredibly effective in educating and supporting key leaders in Congress to take an important stand on the arts.<\/li>\n<li>Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman\u00a0<b>Lisa Murkowski<\/b>\u00a0(R-AK) and House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman\u00a0<b>Ken Calvert<\/b>\u00a0(R-CA), soundly rejected President Trump&#8217;s attempt to terminate our nation&#8217;s cultural agencies.<\/li>\n<li>Persuasive and timely ads were placed in political publications during key decision times to inform Members of Congress about the latest research on the economic power of the arts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Below are the final funding levels for the cultural agencies:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8510 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/Arts-Action-2018-budget-funding.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"528\" height=\"1163\" srcset=\"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/Arts-Action-2018-budget-funding.jpg 528w, http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/Arts-Action-2018-budget-funding-80x176.jpg 80w, http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/Arts-Action-2018-budget-funding-136x300.jpg 136w, http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/Arts-Action-2018-budget-funding-465x1024.jpg 465w, http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/wp-content\/uploads\/Arts-Action-2018-budget-funding-91x200.jpg 91w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>While we celebrate this victory today, we still need your support as we face continued threats from the Trump Administration to eliminate next year\u2019s FY 2019 NEA funding. We need to keep the pressure on Congress.
