{"id":9074,"date":"2018-07-30T07:32:54","date_gmt":"2018-07-30T11:32:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/?p=9074"},"modified":"2018-07-30T07:52:55","modified_gmt":"2018-07-30T11:52:55","slug":"budget-vetoes-update-how-to-watch-the-budget-overrides-end-of-the-legislative-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/artistsunderthedome.org\/malc\/news\/budget-vetoes-update-how-to-watch-the-budget-overrides-end-of-the-legislative-session\/","title":{"rendered":"Budget Vetoes Update &#038; How to Watch the Budget Overrides &#038; End of the Legislative Session"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The end of the two year Legislative session is July 31st (Midnight) and <strong>all<\/strong> pending matters before the Senate and House need to be taken up (the budget overrides and pending key legislation).\u00a0<strong><em>The Senate still needs to vote to override the Governor&#8217;s budget vetoes and this is the last step in the overriding process!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Legislature\u00a0is slated\u00a0to have two days of \u201cformal sessions\u201d. \u00a0The State House, by law, needs to remain open to the public when either the Senate or House is in formal session (the State House is closed on the weekends). This also means if the debate goes into the late evening or early morning, the State House will be open to allow members of the public to watch the debates in person. You can go and watch the sessions in person if you so choose to do so!<\/p>\n<p>Many advocates and lobbyists will be\u00a0up at the State House these next two days trying to meet with House and Senate members, officials and\/or their staff to advocate for their budget amendment(s) and pending legislation.<\/p>\n<p>If you can\u2019t be at the State House in person to observe, you can watch the sessions via live stream on the \u201cthe House Cam and the Senate Cam\u201d. Adobe Flash Player required.):<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/malegislature.gov\/Events<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So far the\u00a0House and Senate have has only posted today&#8217;s formal sessions starting this morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TWO Overrides to Ask Your State Senator to Vote For:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Massachusetts Cultural Council \u00a0Line Item # 0640-0300 \u00a0<\/strong>Ask your State \u00a0Senator to restore<strong> full funding<\/strong> to this line item by overriding the Governor\u2019s veto\/reduction!!!\u00a0\u00a0The amount we want it restored to $16,154,982<\/p>\n<p><em>What the Governor vetoed\/reduced in funding:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Reduce\/Strike Wording \u00a0(reduce MCC funding by) <em>-2,084,283 to 14,070,699<\/em><br \/>\n\u201cI am striking language which earmarks funding for programs not recommended, and I am reducing this item to the amount projected to be necessary.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Municipal Libraries Local Aid\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Line Item # 7000-9501 \u00a0<\/strong>Ask your State Senator to restore <strong>full funding<\/strong> to this line item by overriding the Governor\u2019s veto\/reduction in funding. The amount we want it restored to\u00a0 $9,612,700<b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p><em>What the Governor vetoed\/reduced in funding:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Reduce by <em>-250,000 to 9,362,700<\/em><br \/>\n\u201cI am striking language which earmarks funding for programs not recommended.
