MALC officially formed on July 31, 2008, as a coalition of artist leaders of all disciplines and artist-run organizations with the goal of improving the social and economic conditions of all Massachusetts artists. We wanted to make sure artists had a place at the policy making table.
\n<\/p>\n

Today, in line with MALC’s founding goal, and in collaboration with Artmorpheus, we are pleased to announce the release of the 2018 By Artists, For Artists<\/em>\u00a0report, a key fact-finding study to help guide legislative policy that impacts artists of all disciplines in Massachusetts and beyond. Below are some excerpts from the official press release:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe By Artists, For Artists<\/em> 2018 report will serve as a legislative road map for broader policy discussions and development of legislation that best supports the needs of our artist community,\u201d said Cory Atkins<\/strong>, House Chair of the Joint Committee on Tourism, Arts, and Cultural Development. \u201cThe report underscores the need to invest in our artists so that they have the means to express their creativity and enrich our lives with the work of their imagination.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The 2018 report, dedicated to Liora Beer (1953-2018)<\/strong>,\u00a0co-founder of MALC and Founder and Director of Artmorpheus, is based on the 2009 Stand Up and Be Counted<\/em> project, the first-ever Massachusetts statewide survey of working artists of all disciplines.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe By Artists, For Artists<\/em> project was a grassroots collaborative effort. We are very grateful to all the individuals and organizations who helped with this project. It also is fitting that the By Artists, For Artists<\/em> 2018 report is dedicated to Liora and that it is being released in July, the same month marking the 10th anniversary of the founding of MALC.
