Today is “Save the Internet” Action Day
Dig in and participate!
July 12 is the Internet-Wide Day of Action to Save Net Neutrality
Net neutrality is the basic principle that protects our free speech on the Internet. “Title II” of the Communications Act is what provides the legal foundation for net neutrality and prevents Internet Service Providers like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T from slowing down and blocking websites, or charging apps and sites extra fees to reach an audience (which they then pass along to consumers.)
Net Neutrality gives all online publishers, nonprofits, and businesses, both large and small, a chance to reach their audiences and succeed. It also protects important free speech rights online by prohibiting Internet providers from slowing or blocking sites or messages they don’t agree with.
We deserve an Internet where content either thrives or fails based on its own merit — not on whether a particular business entity has a preferred deal in place with a broadband service provider.
