Update on the fate of the Affordable Care Act (ACA)
Yesterday the U.S. House passed their bill, the American Health Care Act (AHCA), to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA). It passed by a very close vote (217 to 213).
The legislation now heads to the U.S. Senate. If this legislation passes as it is now written, it will have a very negative impact on our State’s Health care system and will impact everyone- even those who obtain their insurance from their employers. Our elected officials- Governor Baker and the entire Massachusetts Delegation (our Congresspeople and Senators) oppose this legislation. The Senate will make changes to the legislation, but it remains to be seen what those changes will be.
MALC will continue to follow and report on this key issue that deeply impacts our community on many, many levels. Thank you to everyone who took the time to advocate on this House legislation. Your advocacy will be needed as the U.S. Senate process moves forward.
Please take the time to read the below links to learn more about this important issue and what the House bill contains/does.
