Wonderful Talk by Dr. Barbara Lewis about African American Poet Phillis Wheatley
Worth the watch!
Dr. Barbara Lewis, Director of the Trotter Institute at UMass Boston, gives a wonder talk about African American Poet Phillis Wheatley:
“Professor Barbara Lewis talked about the time in which poet Phillis Wheatley lived. She spoke about Boston’s treatment of slaves and Phillis Wheatley’s standing in her master’s household. She also looked at the poet’s reception in the international arena. Phillis Wheatley was an eighteenth century Boston slave, and the first African American to have her poetry published.”
